Another technique for fixing corrupt Word files:
1- Use the range selection technique to select the entire document EXCEPT the very last character, which is hidden.
2- Copy the selected text.
3- Open a new Word document.
4- Paste into the new document and save the file.

Range Selection in Word:
1- Place cursor at very beginning of file (Ctrl + Home).
2- Use the scroll bar to go to the end of the document.
3- Hold down the Shift key
4- Place mouse pointer at end of document
5- Left click the mouse button and release it. Keep holding the Shift key!!
6- Press the left arrow on the keyboard once.
7- Release the Shift key.
With these steps the entire document will be selected, except the last character which is hidden. All the information about the document is stored here. By copying everything else into a new document, the corrupt information is left behind.
